Hey, I’m Eli and I’m a Senior Software Engineer at Amazon, mainly in the realm of IoT technologies.

My journey started as an instructor at Coding Dojo where I not only taught numerous successful students but also got to pivot deeper into tech by collaborating with a spectrum of companies, from startups to established giants. I transitioned from an educator to an individual contributor and now stepping into leadership positions.

How Did You Land Your Role at Amazon?

An Amazon recruiter reached out to me during my job search. If there’s one tip I could give is to do hackathons. Hackathons helped me build a portfolio and become comfortable with finding solutions to design challenges, which in turn helped with technical interviews.

What is Your Biggest Challenge as an Engineer?

Knowing what to learn is always a challenge. A good rule of thumb is to always retroactively find the answer to any question you are asked or don't have an answer for on the spot. Deep dive into the areas you are currently working in to gain context and a wider understanding of the space.

The faster you can find other people to learn with the better. Being part of a team will make it more enjoyable and keep you more accountable.
