Hello, I'm Lily, a graduate of UC San Diego, majoring in Cognitive Science with a minor in psychology. Over the past two years, I've immersed myself in the world of design, honing my skills through a combination of self-teaching, hands-on experience, mentorship, and online resources.
Driven by my passion for design, I actively sought out opportunities to collaborate with others and contribute to diverse communities. Through my involvement with ADPList and TechPath, I hope to leverage my experience and skills to make a meaningful impact.
As I approach the next chapter in my career, I am eager to apply my refined expertise and continue supporting communities through my design work.
1. Tell us about your career background
I’m currently working as a User Experience Designer at Signet Signing, but I’ve done many internships to build up my experience. My experience interning at Duo Security, working as a contract designer for Anime Trending, graphic design intern for a local startup, and as a hostess for a restaurant all helped me land my current position.
2. What was your networking experience like?
ADPList has been a tremendous help in connecting me with professionals and gaining new perspectives. I've also attended a few in-person conferences hosted by my university to learn how alumni have succeeded with my degree. I've met multiple mentors through ADPList, cold messaging, and NCWIT (National Center for Women & Information Technology).
3. What are the biggest challenges in your career?
Mass layoffs, hiring freezes, and lack of junior positions have been the most challenging.
4. What’s something you’d tell your younger self?
Redefine what it means to be successful to you. Getting an internship and job may be the top thing in mind, but while those are more difficult to obtain, strive for something closer in reach. For example, that can be spending more time with family or learning a new skill.
