CAPTAIN’S LOG 🚢

Captain’s Log – Stardate 2025.03.05
Time: Too early for this.
Location: Somewhere in the networking seas.
Weather Conditions: Cloudy with a chance of awkward introductions.
Crew Status: Some seasick, some thriving, all caffeinated.
Ship Status: Holding steady and braving new waters.
Events: One crew member just dropped an elite LinkedIn post. Another just realized they’ve been calling someone the wrong name all day.
Remarks: The Intern Ship has sailed once again, and last month’s voyage was nothing short of legendary.
With 159 check-ins, we packed the deck to capacity, and the energy was absolutely electric. The conversations flowed, the connections sparked, and the demand for more? Loud and clear.
But even the smoothest journeys have their waves. The music? A little too loud for easy conversation—so this time, we’re taking the helm on sound control to make sure networking stays effortless. The space? We needed more of it. That’s why for our next event, we’re opening up access to the back VIP room and the main floor, making sure everyone has room to spread out, explore, and make connections without feeling cramped. Every event teaches us something new, and we’re making sure to fine-tune the experience for an even better voyage ahead.
So, here’s what’s next: SF Tech Connect: Spring Break Edition on March 28th. More space, better sound, and the same high-energy social experience, but with even smoother sailing. The goal? Make the Intern Ship the best place to meet new faces and make lasting connections. If you thought the last event was good, just wait—this next one is set to be our best yet.
Consider this your boarding call—the next great adventure is on the horizon, and you won’t want to miss it.
Stay the course, crew. See you at the next port.

How to Maximize Your ROI on Networking Events📈

Attending in-person networking events—whether it’s a professional conference, a career fair, or an Intern Ship event—can be a game-changer. But the real value isn’t just in showing up. It’s in what you do after the event that determines how much ROI you actually get.
Many people treat networking events as one-time experiences, but if you maximize your follow-up strategy, you can extend the benefits for weeks, months, or even years. Here’s how to make sure you’re getting the most bang for your buck after attending an event.
1. Follow Up & Be Remembered
Most people you meet at an event will interact with dozens of people, and by the next day, they might struggle to remember all their conversations. If you want to stand out, the simplest way is to send a follow-up message through whatever medium they shared with you (LinkedIn, email, or text).
How to Craft a Great Follow-Up Message:
Keep it short and friendly – No need for a long email or DM.
Mention something specific – Reference a topic you discussed or a shared interest to jog their memory.
Express appreciation – A simple “Great meeting you!” goes a long way.
Example message:
“Hey [Name], it was awesome meeting you at [Event Name]! I really enjoyed our conversation about [specific topic]. Looking forward to staying in touch—let’s connect on LinkedIn!”
A quick follow-up makes you 10x more memorable and helps maintain that connection beyond the event.
2. Post on LinkedIn: The Underrated Networking Hack
Most attendees never leverage their event experience online, missing out on an easy way to stand out professionally.

How to Tap into the Hidden Job Market 🥷

If you’ve ever felt like job hunting is a never-ending black hole of applications and ghosted emails, here’s a secret: Some of the best jobs aren’t even listed online. Many positions—sometimes up to 60%—never make it to public job boards. This is what’s known as the hidden job market.
What’s the Deal with the Hidden Job Market?
The hidden job market refers to job openings that employers don’t publicly advertise. Why? Sometimes companies want to save on advertising costs. Other times, they prefer internal promotions, employee referrals, or quiet hiring for strategic roles.
How Can You Tap into These Hidden Opportunities?
Getting access to this secret world of job openings isn’t as tricky as it sounds. Here’s how you can start:
WELLNESS MATTERS 💮
The Radical Act of Resting

404 Stress Not Found
Considering that the Intern Ship community is filled with some of the most ambitious and driven individuals, I suspect that true rest might not come easily to many of you.
Even when your body is still, your mind may still be running through to-do lists. Maybe you feel a twinge of guilt for taking a break, as if there’s always something more productive you should be doing. Or perhaps rest feels like just another pause between tasks—never quite free from the weight of what’s next.
With spring break around the corner, I know many of you are thinking about how to maximize your time—catching up on projects, applying for jobs, pushing forward. And that’s great. You should absolutely go after your goals. But I’d like to challenge you to do something radical:
When it’s time to rest, give yourself full permission to do nothing productive. Let your mind and body breathe. Stretch. Enjoy being horizontal. Relax without guilt. Give yourself at least one hour where your only goal is to exist—doing whatever refills your cup, whether that’s daydreaming, watching the clouds, or simply lying down with no agenda.
Rest isn’t just a break from work—it’s fuel for everything you do. So this spring break, embrace it fully.
Because you’re doing great. You are exactly where you are meant to be. Whatever is meant for you is on its way to you.
So let go for a bit. You deserve it.💖
