CAPTAIN’S LOG 🚢

Captain’s Log – Stardate 2025.04.07

We’re rebranding.

As of April 1st, Intern Ship is now known as… Birdtern Ship.

All attendees must now arrive dressed as birds. Bonus gold points for wingspan.

Why? Because we believe in flying high, pecking at doubt, and flocking together.

JK that was some April tomfoolery —but if you did show up in a bird costume to our next event, we’d honestly respect it.

While we didn’t do a rebrand, March was a whole glow-up for Intern Ship.

We leveled up with our Spring Break Tech Connect—more space, more energy, and yasss... food this time 🍕✨

The turnout was amazing, the vibes were vibing, but what really made the night special was the launch of something new: our Brightest Young Minds panel series featuring Avni Barman, founder/CEO of Gen She; Audrey Chen, co-founder/CEO of Sprint.Dev; and Michael Yan, founder/CEO of Simplify.

It was cozy, intimate, and kind of magical. Tucked into the back room, our three inspiring speakers opened up from the couches while people gathered close to listen to how they balance life while operating at peak performance. It felt like storytime for ambitious adults—and we’re so proud of how it landed.

March reminded us that every event is a chance to grow—not just in size, but in substance.

This month, we launch a new chapter: Intern Ship Tech Treks.

Tech Treks are your invitation to step off campus and into the real world of tech.

We’re talking behind-the-scenes access to top companies, inspiring panels and workshops, and (of course) a chance to connect with other bright minds—all in the chill, welcoming Intern Ship vibe you know and love.

No pressure. Just good people, big ideas, and maybe some snacks.

OFFLINE IS THE NEW ONLINE 😎

5 Tips if You Run Out of Things to Say

IRL is trending—and awkward silences are part of the deal. Here’s how to handle them.

There’s a growing hunger for real connection. Not the quick-hit kind that lives in likes or reacts, but the slow, unfiltered magic of being in the room. Face to face. Person to person.

But what happens when the convo dies?

If you've ever found yourself at a networking event, standing in front of someone who seems great but suddenly your brain is screaming “I have nothing else to say!”—you’re not alone.

This week, we came across a fantastic Charisma on Command episode from 7 years ago that is so relevant today. It delivers five practical ways to never run out of things to say. And they’re too good not to share.

(Side Quest: Take a gander at the comments section 😂😂)

⚓ IRL Talk Toolkit: 5 Tips for When Your Mind Goes Blank

1. “That reminds me of…”
Use your environment or what they just said as a launchpad. If they mention a trip to Japan, you might say “That reminds me of a documentary I watched on Japanese gardens…” You don’t need a perfect connection—just a spark.

Activate Your Rizz For Job Interviews🤓

See 1:35:55 How Can I Use These Skills to Get a New Job or Promotion?

This month’s spotlight tip comes from the wildly popular podcast Diary of a CEO, featuring one of the minds behind the YouTube channel Charisma on Command (yes, the one with over 6.92 million subscribers!). The conversation dives into something we rarely talk about: how to bring your most charismatic self to an interview—and spoiler, it has nothing to do with rehearsing the perfect answer.

Here are the three golden takeaways that genuinely made me rethink how we prep for human connection, not just interviews:

1. Warm Up Your Rizz (Yes, Literally)

The interview doesn’t start when you sit across from your interviewer—it starts the moment you leave the house.
Whether it’s chatting with your Uber driver or the security guard at the front desk, these casual human interactions help you warm up your vocal cords, social energy, and presence. Think of it like stretching before a workout—but for connection.

We often obsess over technical prep (the right answers, the perfect outfit), but we overlook the fact that we’re showing up as a human. That energy—your spark—is what leaves a lasting impression. Charisma isn’t something you turn on in the interview room; it’s something you build up to.

WELLNESS MATTERS 💮

Brightest Young Minds Chat: Doing the Most Without Burning Out

We really wish we had a recording of our recent Brightest Young Minds lightning chat to share with you. Unfortunately… Our mic setup totally failed. The recording? Yeah... let’s just say it sounded like it was coming from the bottom of the ocean.

But even though we can’t quote anyone directly, the questions we asked still matter. A lot. Especially when it comes to one of Intern Ship’s core missions: wellness.

Featuring Avni Barman, Founder/CEO of Gen She; Audrey Chen, co-founder & CEO of Sprint.Dev; and Michael Yan, founder & CEO of Simplify

So today, we’re answering those questions ourselves—based on everything we’ve seen, felt, and learned while trying to do the most without burning out.
