CAPTAIN’S LOG 🚢

🧭 Captain’s Log: The Power of the Hat

Ahoy, Intern Ship Crew! It’s Manny, your Captain, reflecting on these past months, and one unforgettable Halloween voyage.

Hosting an event on an actual yacht has been a dream of mine since I first came up with the idea for The Intern Ship. Last Halloween, it finally happened — and yes, I showed up in full captain mode: crisp white suit, hat with our logo, gold stars, the whole deal.

Here’s the funny part: guests kept coming up to me throughout the night and actually thought I was the real captain of the ship. They asked where we’d be sailing that night, and honestly… I played along for a bit. Couldn’t resist. 😏

But here’s what hit me — that hat, that suit, that moment of play — it’s all part of my personal brand. I wear the captain’s hat at almost every event, not just for the look, but because it makes me instantly recognizable. It’s an invitation for conversation, a reason for people to remember me.

In a world where everyone’s online trying to stand out, sometimes the secret is to lean into your quirks offline. Your “hat” might be a bold outfit, a signature question, or a wild idea you’ve been sitting on. Whatever it is — own it. That’s how you create moments, connections, and opportunities that algorithms could never replicate.

So my challenge to you this month:
👉 What’s your captain’s hat?
👉 What’s one small thing you can do IRL to be more memorable, more you?

Until next time — stay bold, stay human, and I’ll see you out there.

— Manny, Captain of the Intern Ship 🚢

SOCIAL HACKS OF THE MONTH

How to Make Friends — especially in a new city

  1. Show up — a lot. Go to all kinds of local events until you find a few that feel right.

  2. Find your “third places.” Pick one daytime hangout and one nighttime spot you love — and keep showing up. When you become a regular, people start to know where to find you.

  3. Keep the invites open. Instead of setting plans that might fall through, text friends like, “Hey, I’ll be at ___ if you wanna join!” No pressure, no guilt — just an open door.

  4. Be consistent. The real magic is in the routine. When people know they can catch you at the same place every week, it lowers the pressure and makes hanging out feel effortless.

  5. Stay chill and genuine. Don’t make it about networking or dating — just bring good energy and let connections happen.

  6. Watch it grow. Over time, those casual, no-expectation hangouts become your community — that “third place” where friendships naturally take root.

🔍 Study / AI Tool Spotlight: Google’s Learn Your Way
